We devised a system to define the axle configuration:

  • M for Motorcycle
  • K for Trike
  • Q for Quad
  • C for Car
  • T for Trailer (using a draw-bar)
  • V for Van
  • L for Lorry (fixed truck)

this requires a WIM system to define axle count and position

  • H for Hauler (tractor for semi-trailers with a 5th wheel)
  • S for Semi (hangs over the hauler)
  • D for Dolly (trailer carrying a 5th wheel)
  • N for Link (semi with incorporated 5th wheel)
  • B for Bus
  • E or bus Extension

Previous are then u sed in combination with number of axles. This system does not support number of wheels per axle yet.

  1. Single axle
  2. Double axle
  3. Triple axle
  4. Quadruple axle

With system, we can cover all our current and future needs. The classification list can easily expand in the future as rig configurations and detection device evolve. Examples: Haulers + Semi + trailers, giga-liners, road trains, etc. Myriade implemented a system which dynamically assembles the icons based on their classification.

WIM provides more information about a vehicle. If metaBOF receives the data:

  • Total Weight.
  • Total Length.
  • Number of Axles.
  • Axle Weight.
  • Axle Distances (spacing)
  • Front and Rear Overhang
  • Right vs Left balance, 1.5 rule.
… it will be included in an ANPR/WIM Read.
